Year 3

Welcome to Year 3! Here is where you will discover all the amazing things we have been learning about.

Your teacher this year will be Mrs Garrard, supported by Mrs Tubby.

Autumn term: September 2020

This term, year 3 will have PE on Monday and gymnastics on Thursday every week, therefore the children will need to come to school in their PE kits on these days.

We will also be visiting the nature area, to complete outdoor learning, on Thursdays. As the weather changes, the children will need to have a pair of wellies in school.

Many thanks

Mrs Garrard

Welcome to year 3

Home Learning

As stated in a recent school letter home, while the current advice is to remain open and continue with the education of our young people, the academy has been putting in place contingency plans. Part of this is providing parents and carers with resources for home learning to take place. Please keep checking this section of the class page, as well as Dojo's and other usual channels, for further information.

Reading Fluency

Here are some hints as to what reading fluency is and what can be done to improve it.

       What is reading fluency

uFluency is the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression.
uFluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension.
uWhen fluent readers read silently, they recognize words automatically. They group words quickly to help them gain meaning from what they read.
uFluent readers read aloud effortlessly and with expression (intonation). Their reading sounds natural, as if they are speaking.

        What helps reading fluency

uTo help with fluency children need to be able to decode (break them down by sounds) easily.
uTo discuss the meaning of unfamiliar words to increase vocabulary.
uReading aloud to an adult or learning partner.
uUsing punctuation cues to add more expression to the reading.
uListening to good role models read to them regularly.
