Religious Education

Through our curriculum we aim to:

• Inspire and motivate the children to learn
• Develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of each child
• Give opportunities for children to learn from each other
• Promote a positive attitude to learning
• Create life-long learners
• Help children to understand Britain’s heritage
• Teach children how to be positive citizens in society.

As part of DNEAT, Religious Education is taught weekly as a distinct academic subject.

In each year there is a focus on Christianity plus the opportunity for pupils to learn and evaluate their own views on other world religions.

RE enables pupils to know about and understand Christianity as a living faith that influences the lives of people worldwide and as the religion that has most shaped British culture and heritage.

RE intends to promote religious understanding and respect, and to challenge

prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping.

RE enables pupils to appreciate their own and others’ beliefs and cultures, helping them to develop a clear understanding of the significance of religion in their own area as well as in the world today.

It is concerned with the promotion of each pupil’s self-worth, enabling them to reflect

on their uniqueness as human beings, to share their feelings and emotions with

others and to appreciate the importance of forming and maintaining positive

relationships. We aim to contribute to the development of pupils’ own spiritual/philosophical convictions, exploring and enriching their own beliefs and values

We strongly believe that the purpose of RE is about religious literacy. This means we

aim for children to be able to hold a balanced and well-informed conversation about

religion and belief. In order to fulfil this purpose we provide a balance of theology,

philosophy and human/social sciences within our RE lessons.

The basis of our curriculum is inspired by our school vision and ethos of #CARE, compassion, aspiration, respect and equality/equity.

Art and RE day

We learnt about the Christmas story and looked closely at the three Magi who travelled along way to bring gifts to Jesus. We thought about how they linked to our values of :-

Compassion

Aspiration

Respect

Equality/Equity

Each year group took a different value and described the way the Magi expressed this quality throughout the story.

We then looked at the painting of their journey and recreated this using different art techniques.
